What is it? That's the question Dave Bloomfield was left wondering after he found what he thought was a shark's tooth covered in shell inside a paua.
Dave was left wondering when, after diving off Kahutara last weekend, he found that six of his 10 paua all had an unusual growth attached.
"I shucked it and it was loosely just stuck to the skirt of the paua."
But further research established that the "shark's tooth" anomaly was actually a paua pearl and while unusual, is not unknown.
It is not clear what the pearl is worth but Dave is planning to list it on Trade Me to test the market.
