Great Q & A with Chris Fallows the South African photographer and adventurer responsible for "Air Jaws".

"Most people try to stay as far away as possible from great white sharks, given their immense size and raw power. But not Chris Fallows, the South African photographer and adventurer who returns to Discovery Channel on Sunday to kick off the 23rd edition of its annual Shark Week with "Ultimate Air Jaws."

Like its predecessors ("Air Jaws" and "Air Jaws 2"), the new special tracks Fallows as he captures images of great whites as they breach out of the water as they hunt for seals off South Africa's Seal Island. What's new is the state-of-the-art high-definition cameras he's using, which shoot 2,000 frames per second, offering the clearest view of these attacks ever. Footage of a one-second breach can be slowed down and studied in great detail, down to the number of teeth in each shark's mouth."

Experts Back Law Banning Shark Fishing

Is it time to put a ban on shark fishing? Many animals have come under the protection of over hunting. Perhaps it is time we look into protecting one of the least most feared.

"A dangerous man-eater, a great source of shark hash or a symbol of human cruelty and the exploitation of the ocean?

The sight of an 11ft tiger shark being chopped up on a Somerset dock this week evoked powerful emotions.

While neighbourhood children jostled to have their pictures taken with the shark, others voiced concerns that an endangered animal had apparently been slaughtered for sport.

Michael Burke, who runs SCUBA firm Blue Water Diving, believes Bermuda should follow in the footsteps of Palau and the Maldives and protect sharks through legislation."

Great White Shark Warning

According to the Associated Press, "the National Park Service is warning surfers, snorkelers and swimmers that it's the great white shark birthing season off the California coast and the creatures are making their presence known as they attack seals.

Sea lions were recently attacked by great whites on three occasions off Santa Barbara Island, a popular snorkeling area about 40 miles south of Ventura.

A weekend great white off Santa Barbara's East Beach led officials to keep youngsters in the Junior Lifeguard program on the beach Monday and Tuesday. On Sunday, a great white pup was found dead at Rincon Beach.

Marine Conservation Science Institute president Michael Domeier says pregnant females give birth this time of year in shallow California waters."
